Abstract
ABSTRACT This study aims to analyze the types of grammatical errors made by students in constructing passive sentences and to identify the most dominant errors. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method with an Error Analysis (EA) approach. The subjects of the study are 25 students from Senior High School. Data were collected thru a written test that asked students to change active sentences into passive sentences, and then analyzed based on error classification according to Surface Strategy Taxonomy, which includes omission, addition, misformation, and misordering. The research results show that students still experience various difficulties in constructing passive sentences. The most dominant error is misformation, which indicates that students have not yet mastered the use of the past participle form and the agreement between the subject and the verb. Additionally, errors of omission, misordering, and addition were also found, indicating weaknesses in understanding the basic structure of passive sentences. The factors causing the errors include a lack of understanding of grammar, limited vocabulary, and insufficient practice in using passive sentences. Based on these findings, it is recommended that teachers provide more focused explanations on the structure of passive sentences and offer varied and continuous exercises to help students improve their understanding and ability to use passive sentences correctly and effectively.
