Abstract

English speaking skills are crucial for global communication, but many high school students struggle with fluency, pronunciation, vocabulary, and confidence. This study evaluates the effectiveness of Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) through English songs in enhancing the speaking skills of 12th-grade students at Al-Ikhlas Pacet Islamic High School. English songs offer authentic language input and create a low-anxiety environment, boosting students' motivation and participation. Utilizing a quantitative quasi-experimental design, the research involved 68 students in an experimental class and a control class, assessing their skills through oral tests and questionnaires. Results indicated significant improvement post-intervention, with the experimental group's average scores rising from 60.88 to 87.19, compared to the control group’s 61.92 to 71.47. A t-test confirmed significant differences (t-value: 8.041, p < 0.05). Students responded positively to the CLT method, with average scores of 34.38 versus 25.19 in the control class. The findings support the use of song-based CLT as an effective and engaging strategy for enhancing speaking skills and motivation in English language learning at the upper secondary level.
