Abstract

Dialect is one of the important linguistic studies in learning Arabic, because each region has differences in writing and pronunciation. This is a difficulty for students who study Arabic, especially those who study abroad. In this study the author discusses the use of grammar that occurs in two Arabic dialects, namely the Egyptian dialect and the Levantine dialect with its comparison to fushah Arabic through syntax and phonology reviews using a descriptive analysis approach. Through this research, it is expected that readers can draw conclusions that are quite easy to understand about the differences in dialects, especially the Egyptian and Levantine dialects. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative method, where primary data is in the form of Arabic dictionaries, books related to Egyptian and Levantine dialects and youtube channels that are relevant to the research studied. The secondary data is library data relevant to the research studied. The results of the research that the author found include: Fushah Arabic tends to be more rigid and grammatically complex and maintains typical Arabic sounds, while Egyptian and Levantine dialects are simpler, flexible in grammar and tend to lighten or modify the sound system according to their respective regions. The Levantine dialects spoken in Syria, Lebanon, Palestine, Jordan, and parts of Turkey and Cyprus generally have similar vocabularies because they are derived from the same Arabic roots but there are certain regional variations and differences such as local vocabularies, dialectal differences, and also the influence of imported words from other countries. Keywords: Egyptian dialect, Levantine dialect, Fushah, Syntax, Phonology.
